Background information Cloverdale Comm unity Centre is the base for inclusive learning and support programs and activities that build community capacity and resilience and promote commu nity cultural expression. These include the Shoulder to Shoulder progra m\, that we recently learned about and sponsored\, and the Lotus Kitchen which is the focus of our visit which: Operates a kitchen that provides d elicious Thai meals for the local community. Provides support to survivor s of domestic violence and slavery in Australia. Builds relationships and links to local support services. The program name\, Lotus Kitchen\, sta nds for “liberating ourselves together\, united and strong”. The name was chosen because of the significance of the lotus flower\, it is a surv ivor because it pushes its way through muddy waters and finds the sunligh t.
